Dermatology: Parkinson’s-Related Skin Conditions

I just had my annual dermatology appointment and learned of some PD-related skin issues. The first is seborrhoeic dermatitis (example below).

It’s a relatively minor skin condition. Apparently, one of my symptoms of it, flaky skin on the sides of my nose and between my eyebrows, is seen regularly in PD patients. For more info on the condition, click here. I use Zoryve and hydrocortisone cream to treat it. For me, Zoryve, which requires a prescription, was a bit expensive, but it works. Hydrocortisone, which is over the counter, works faster, but you have to cycle it, and only use it for one week at a time, otherwise it thins your skin and stops working.

The second PD-related skin issue is melanoma. My doctor explained that their is a higher incidence of melanoma in people with Parkinson’s. Here is more info on that too.
